First Ever House of Delegates Digital Media Contest

The House of Delegates is having its first ever Digital Art Contest for grades 6-12! The winner will receive a $500 United States Series EE Savings Bond, and a certificate from the General Assembly to be presented on the House floor.

Contest Topic:

Individual students will create a Photo Story on the following topic: How does a bill become a law in Virginia?

The Virginia General Assembly dates from the establishment of the House of Burgesses at Jamestown in 1619. It is heralded by Virginians as the “oldest continuous law-making body in the New World.”

Participants are encouraged to create a Photo Story that actively engages the audience in learning about the law-making process in Virginia, including the drafting and introduction of a bill, committee action, floor action, the actions of the Governor, and the date that legislation becomes law in Virginia.

This contest gives students a chance to show off their digital media skills, to communicate an important message, and to stretch their creativity and communication skills.
