The House of Delegates is having its first ever Art Contest! The contest is open to all children ages 4-12. The winner will receive a $200 United States Series EE Savings Bond, and a certificate from the General Assembly to be presented on the House floor.
Individual students will create a picture that illustrates the following topic:
State symbols and emblems represent the cultural heritage and natural resources of each state. Oftentimes, they reflect native species of flora and fauna, history, and industry. Virginia has a state flag, a state seal, and many symbols and emblems that have been officially adopted by legislative action of the Virginia General Assembly over the years. After identifying the official symbols and emblems of Virginia, create a picture that illustrates a significant item that should be added as a symbol of Virginia and recognized for its importance to our state.
