News from VDOT: Braddock Road Overpass Brings Relief

Westbound Braddock Road drivers will now have a smooth drive going over the Capital Beltway thanks to the new overpass that will open on Thursday, May 27.  The traffic signal at I-495 north to Braddock Road west will be removed as well, so motorists heading home in the evening should see some relief.

Additionally, during the week of May 31, the eastbound traffic will shift to the new bridge.

Once the traffic shifts, the old overpass will be torn down. A new overpass will be built in it’s place, but while the work to rebuild the new span takes place all the eastbound and westbound traffic will be on the new bridge. Both overpasses should be in operation by late 2011.

Braddock Road will be a High Occupancy Toll lane access point for those heading north on I-495, and an exit point for vehicles heading south.
