As a state delegate, I have no say over School Board issues. However, as a citizen of Fairfax County, I thought this information might be informative for you.
The Fairfax County School Board will be holding a meeting on May 17th at 6p.m. to discuss the issue of Full Day Kindergarten. Superintendent Jack Dale has proposed three options for the issue.
The three options are (A.) using funding that was already set aside for FY 2013 to balance the FY 2012 budget to implement funding for full day kindergarten to start in all public schools in the fall; (B.) phasing in full-day kindergarten over two years, with 16 schools starting full-day kindergarten this upcoming school year with the other 20 schools adding full-day kindergarten during the 2012-13 school year; or (C.) giving employees a 1 percent bonus in place of a market scale adjustment. Option A gives all of the students in Fairfax County Public Schools full day kindergarten starting in September.
