The storms that passed through Northern Virginia last week caused extensive damage here and across the state. The State Corporation Commission’s (SCC) Bureau of Insurance advises consumers to contact their insurance company as soon as possible to determine coverage to any damage property.
Contact information for insurance companies and agents is available at the SCC’s Bureau of Insurance Website at:
www.scc.virginia.gov/boi/ConsumerInquiry/CompanySearch.aspx (for insurance company lookup) or
www.scc.virginia.gov/boi/ConsumerInquiry/ProducerSearch.aspx (for insurance agent lookup)
It is recommended that you take pictures of damaged property, save receipts for any repair costs and protect your property from further damage. Some policies also include coverage for debris removal and additional living expenses. Check with your agent to determine what kind of coverage is available to you.
The Bureau’s Property and Casualty Division is also available to answer any questions. They can be reached by phone at 1-877-310-6560 or by email at BureauofInsurance@scc.virginia.gov.
