Interesting Different Take on the Last Election

Friends,

I thought I would share this article my dad found interesting. Here is another way of analyzing the results of the presidential election that appears to be worth considering.

Heuristic mentioned is, “places with sidewalks voted for Obama. Places without sidewalks voted for Romney.” That is cities/urban areas voted for Obama, rural areas voted for Romney.

Implication is that as US becomes more urban (e.g., 79+% urban in 2000 vs 80+% urban in 2010) the Democratic trend will continue unless Republicans can find way to capture urban vote.

Consequently, capturing urban vote may not be tied gender, ethnicity, etc., but may be influenced by solving urban problems (e.g., transportation, education, public safety).
