It is important for us as citizens to ensure a healthier environment for future generations. I am proud to announce that the Chesapeake Bay Foundation has worked diligently in improving the Bay. When Captain Smith arrived to the Americas in the 1600s, it was clean and clear, so clear you could probably see the fish swimming. As time progressed, the Bay became more and more polluted. In 1967, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation was formed to help clean up our area! Since its establishment, the CBF has been working to get the Bay back to its state in the early 1600s.
As you can tell in the chart below, in the early 1600s, the state of the bay was ranked at 100. By 1967, the Bay was at a low rank of 22. With the creation of the CBF, the rank has been increasing and as of 2012, it is at 32! They hope by 2050, the Chesapeake Bay will return close to its state in the early 1600s!
