Mason Neck Park 2nd in Coke Contest

Please vote for Mason Neck State Park!

As some of you may know, Mason Neck State Park provides many activities and programs to further the education of everyone, young and old alike, regarding the beauty and value of wildlife preservation. It can be tagging along with a park employee/volunteer as they take a census of the birdhouses on the property. It can be renting a kayak to quietly paddle and watch the bald eagles and osprey fish on the bay or watching a bald eagle being released back into the wild after an injury. Whatever it is, Mason Neck provides a way for people to learn about these wonderful creatures and why they are important in the world around us.

To that end, additional funding is needed for Mason Neck State Park. This year’s Coca-Cola contest, “Take it to the Park,” is offering grants of $100,000, $50,000 and $25,000 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners respectively, for improvements to help restore, rebuild or enhance activity areas in the parks. The winners are based on the number of votes they accumulate between June 6 and July 15, 2013. Mason Neck Park is currently in 2nd place. Groups in the area have been working hard and trying to recruit family and friends to help but now they need help from the community to retain that spot or move up!
