As you may already know, one of the things I work hard for in our Virginia legislature is to get our children into Virginia Colleges and Universities. I’ve worked with many of my colleagues in the House of Delegates to get schools like UVA, JMU, VA Tech, CNU, VCU and W&M to each add hundreds of in-state slots for students.
I recently received from good news from the President at the University of Virginia. Mrs. Sullivan informed me that one of their commitments is to educate a greater number of Virginians. Therefore, they have an institutional growth plan that calls for enrolling 1,673 new undergraduates by the 2018-2019 school year (an approximate 12% increase from 2010-2011). Of these 1,673 new students, 1,171 or 70%, will be Virginia students!
This is a great step in the right direction and I applaud UVA for their efforts to educate more Virginians. I look forward to continuing working with Mrs. Sullivan and all university presidents to create even more in-state slots for our kids!
