E-Cigarette Bill is Passed into Law

Yesterday, I joined Governor McAuliffe in Richmond as he signed my bill into law.

House Bill 218 will prohibit the sale of e-cigarettes to minors. E-Cigarettes use a battery to convert liquid nicotine and flavoring into an inhalable vapor.

You might find it interesting to know that before I introduced this bill, there were no Virginia laws or FDA regulations regarding the sale of e-cigarette products.

This is an important milestone for Virginia because we are one of the first states to pass a bill prohibiting the sale of e-cigs to minors. Data from the National Youth Tobacco Survey revealed that close to 1.78 million middle and high school students have tried e-cigarettes. Hopefully with the passage of this law, that statistic can decrease.
